After many years spent in study and training of multiple treatment techniques and approaches, I began noticing a power within each individual that literally lights up in my mind during treatment. I observe patterns of resistance within each person that are unique to that person. When I support these patterns of resistance, something interesting happens. The pattern of resistance usually releases, and the energy begins flowing from this infinite source of power through the individual differently. The energy within the individual then reorganizes and redistributes. Over the course of several treatments, people usually report that their symptoms have diminished or resolved and that their lives are improving in some way. After treating hundreds of patients over the course of many years and seeing the same basic theme, I have drawn these conclusions:
- The same power to create life and heal is within each person
- Traumatic moments in life are often resisted and these patterns of resistance can persist throughout life
- As long as resistance to life persists, the potential for complete healing is reduced
- When resistance to life is released, the flow of life-force resumes, and the potential for all healing is possible
I believe that while I may be noticing patterns of resistance within tissue, organs, fluids, energy systems, and so on, beneath the mechanism, it is ultimately the resistance to life itself that I am perceiving. This resistance to life is manifested and held within the body, but the body is not the source of the resistance. If I can help a person release their resistance to life on any level, something good will come from it. It is not I, David, the therapist, that is performing a healing. When life is accepted and resumes its flow, the consequence will be what we call a healing. The most simplistic analogy I can offer to my general treatment approach is that of training wheels. I am assisting and supporting an individual in ways that were perhaps lacking at the moment of trauma. When they accept that support, on some level and to some degree they release their own resistance to life, and finally move past or through that moment that had been held in indefinite suspension. The power already within them creates life and healing.
